Meet Rylee

Rylee is a bright and determined little boy who lives with quadriplegic cerebral palsy and Bartter syndrome – a rare condition that affects how his kidneys work. Because of this, Rylee needs large amounts of fluid through his feeding tube each day to keep his levels safe and stable.

He also needs full-time support with every part of his day, from specialist seating and a wheelchair to help moving around, to continence care and feeding.

Rylee started coming to Zoe’s Place when he was just one-year-old, right in the middle of the pandemic. His parents, Bethanie and Dean, had been through a tough start, with long hospital stays and no outside support during lockdown.

“We were absolutely exhausted,” Bethanie shared. “Zoe’s Place was a lifeline for us.”

Now, Rylee has formed special bonds with staff and other children at the hospice. His big sister Alyssa also takes part in our sibling support service and gets excited whenever she sees Zoe’s Place written on the family calendar.

Each year, the family takes on a new fundraising challenge to give something back — from skydives and 10Ks to school colour runs.

For Rylee’s family, Zoe’s Place means more than respite — it means friendship, understanding, and the chance to simply be a family.
