Three Teesside fathers have launched a year-long running campaign to raise crucial funds for Zoe’s Place Baby Hospice in Middlesbrough, marking ten years since their original fitness challenge inspired the creation of community running group Destination Boro.

David Jukes, Dean McCormack, and Jeff Boyle, the trio behind the initiative, have announced The Ten Run-mandments, a new series of ten running events taking place throughout 2025. The campaign will celebrate a decade of fundraising while putting Zoe’s Place, a hospice for babies and children with life-limiting conditions, at the heart of their efforts.

The journey began in 2015, when the three friends, then unfit and looking for a personal challenge, decided to collectively run 3,000 miles in a year. What began as a private goal quickly snowballed into a public movement, now known as Destination Boro, which has since raised more than £20,000 for local charities.

Speaking about the 10-year milestone, David Jukes said:

“What started as a challenge between friends has grown into something far beyond what we ever imagined. Destination Boro has brought together runners of all ages and abilities, all united by a desire to do good. For our tenth year, we wanted to go all out—and we cannot think of a more deserving cause than Zoe’s Place.”

The Ten Run-mandments will feature a mix of formal race events and themed community runs. Highlights include the popular Parkrun-athon, a Superhero Run through Teesside streets, and classic races like the Great North Run and the Kielder Half Marathon.

The full event lineup includes:

  1. Brass Monkey Half (or alternative) – 19 January
  2. London Landmarks or Teesside Tribute – 6 April
  3. Sunderland City Run – 11 May
  4. Summer Ks Relay with Boro Runners – June
  5. Superhero Run – 21 June
  6. The Parkrunathon – 19 July
  7. Destination Boro Relay (Marske to Redcar) – August (TBC)
  8. The Great North Run – 7 September
  9. Kielder Half Marathon – 5 October
  10. York 10-Mile Finale – 19 October

The campaign is open to all, runners, walkers, families, and newcomers alike, encouraging community involvement while raising money for a vital local cause.

Zoe’s Place, based in Middlesbrough, provides palliative, respite, and end-of-life care for babies and young children, along with support for their families. Fundraising efforts like these are critical to keeping its services running.

Whether participants join one race or take on all ten, the Destination Boro team hopes this landmark year will inspire more people to get involved, get moving, and make a difference.
