Alan’s 10th half marathon for Zoe’s Place Coventry!
The 2024 Coventry Half Marathon is fast approaching, so we caught up with our Chair of Trustees, Alan Schofield to talk all things Half Marathon!
Alan has now completed 9 half marathons for Zoe’s Place, with the 2024 event taking place on Sunday 28th April, soon to become his tenth!
Here’s what Alan said…
Why have you decided to run a half marathon for a tenth time?
I have run at least 9 for Zoe’s, 1 for Myton Hospice, and 1 for Parkinson’s, but Zoe’s is clearly my main cause 💛
Have you got any pearls of wisdom for people thinking of running their first half marathon?
Not sure about pearls of wisdom but prepare well by using a recognized training plan and following it! And if you need to walk a little during the run – then do!
As you know a large part of completing a run or event for Zoe’s Place is the fundraising, what do you find is the best method?
Using JustGiving is great, and the money reaches the recipients more quickly. However, always have a paper version at the ready!
Why have you chosen to run for Zoe’s Place each year?
I have 5 children (including 2 stepchildren), 7 grandsons, and they are all fit and healthy, for which I am extremely grateful. I cannot imagine how parents cope when they have children who need the service that Zoe’s offer. So, I wanted to help by raising funds along the way!
We hear you have some exciting plans with our Middlesbrough Hospice and Liverpool Hospice, can you share a little about these?
As a Trustee of Zoe’s Place Baby Hospice, I want to show support for all 3 of the Hospices (Coventry, Liverpool, Middlesbrough), so I am running half marathons for all 3. The Coventry Half on April 28th, 2024, for Coventry, The Great North Run on September 8th, 2024, for Middlesbrough, and looking for a Liverpool half Marathon next!
