From Tribute to Teamwork: Karen’s Story

For Karen, volunteering at Zoe’s Place began as a heartfelt tribute. After losing her dad at the end of 2010, Karen and her mum chose to ask for donations to Zoe’s Place in lieu of funeral flowers – a reflection of her dad’s love for children and his belief that “flowers are for the living.”

Thanks to the generosity of family and friends, they raised over £1,000, which they presented to Zoe’s Place. At that time, our memorial garden was being built, with engraved bricks available to sponsor in memory of loved ones. Because of their generous donation, Karen was able to place a brick in memory of her dad – a special tribute given that he had been a builder. That brick still remains in our garden today, a lasting symbol of their support and connection to Zoe’s Place.

Over the years, Karen and her family have continued to support us in various ways, from attending events to taking part in our gardening days through AGCO Finance. When asked to come up with a community project for AGCO Finance’s Community Involvement portal in October 2023, Karen knew exactly who to reach out to – Zoe’s Place.

Since then, Karen and her team have joined us for several gardening days, with her husband, Mark, and stepson, Sam, also getting involved and even offering waste removal services free of charge. Their hands-on help and dedication to Zoe’s Place have been invaluable, showing how one act of kindness can blossom into years of meaningful support.

At Zoe’s Place, we’re deeply grateful for volunteers like Karen and her family, whose ongoing efforts ensure we can continue providing vital care and comfort to the children and families who need us most.
