Ged Finnegan has fundraised for Zoe’s Place since 2018…

Dedicated Zoe’s Place supporter, Ged, has once again completed his annual marathon walk, raising a remarkable £27,230.12 for the Zoe’s Place, Liverpool. This year’s event, which took place in March, marks the highest single-year total since Ged initiated the fundraiser in 2018. Over the years, his efforts have totalled over £80,000 in support of the hospice’s invaluable services.

The marathon route begins at Otterspool, heading along the Liverpool waterfront to the Pier Head, where they take the ferry over to Woodside and then continue the walk through New Brighton to the iconic Leasowe Lighthouse, before heading back. Participants and supporters gathered in strong numbers, donning their yellow Zoe’s Place t-shirts and buckets, highlighting the support for Ged and Zoe’s Place.

Ged sadly lost his daughter and wanted to do something in her memory on her 20th Anniversary and at the time loved to go on walks and so the ‘Walk for Kate’ came about. Ged’s walk has got bigger each year, having over 100 people signed up to join him plus friends and family taking on other challenges to help raise the record-breaking £27,000.

Ged said, “The commitment from half seven in the morning, to half six at night, 11 hours and 26 miles – a marathon distance – to walk that as well shows the commitment to Zoe’s Place and the support that I’ve got so its a memorable day every year and quite overwhelming.”

Peter, a participant from the last 2 years said, “This will be something I will do for the rest of my life. Fundraising for Zoe’s Place is fantastic, it changes families lives. By doing something small, walking 26 miles is nothing to what that hospice does for the families and the children that are there.”

Plans for next year’s walk are already underway, with Ged and walkers aiming to surpass this year’s achievements. Next year sees Zoe’s Place, Liverpool, celebrate 30 years and Ged hopes to hit the thirty thousand mark in honour of this occasion.

We want to say a huge thank you to Ged and everyone who involved, your support means so much to everyone at Zoe’s Place.
