Christmas Coventry

In the quiet neighbourhood of Coundon in Coventry, there’s a house that steals the show every Christmas. Meet Paul and Richard, the duo behind the Christmas lights display that has become a tradition for the entire community.

What started as decorations for the front of the house has now transformed into a display at the back of their home, the neighbour’s house, and they even host their very own festive grotto.

For over seven years, on the 1st of December at 7pm, the Coundon Christmas Lights turn on. It has become an unspoken rule in Coventry that when the calendar hits December, you can’t miss the switch-on.

What makes this even more special is that it’s not just about lights and decorations for Paul and Richard. From the beginning, they’ve dedicated their efforts to a cause close to their hearts – Zoe’s Place Baby Hospice in Coventry

Why they do it for Zoe’s Place

When visitors first suggested they should consider raising money for charity, a money box was introduced, and the community responded in a big way – over £8,000 big. Since then, over the years, the Coundon Christmas Lights display has evolved, and so has the amount they’ve raised for Zoe’s Place – an impressive £30,500 and counting. Paul and Richard have no intention of stopping. For them, it’s not just about the lights; it’s about the tradition and community they’ve built.

In the words of Ian Carr, Head of Fundraising at Zoe’s Place, “The Coundon Christmas Lights display is not just a festive event, it’s an example of community spirit. The funds raised by Paul and Richard make a significant impact on the lives of the children and families we support at Zoe’s Place Baby Hospice. We are very grateful for their ongoing dedication.”
