From Zoë's Place Baby to Fundraising Hero!

Meet Isaac and his sister Isla. A little boy that once came to Zoë’s Place in Middlesbrough for care who is now joining an army of heroes to raise funds so that other children and their families can access the services of Zoë’s Place Baby Hospice just as he did.

Rachel Blackburn and her family begun using the hospice in 2014 when Isaac was 1 years old. Now 8 years old he attends Discovery Special Academy and is putting his love for cycling to good use raising funds for a cause very close to the family’s heart.

Isaac came into the world much earlier than expected and has proven to be a miracle baby. Rachel said, “Problems had been detected at 20 weeks which saw us referred to fetal medicine. Isaac came very early along with his twin brother Noah at 24 weeks 1day. Unfortunately, Noah was not strong enough. Nothing prepares you for this. It was a tough time at neonatal. Isaac spent a long 5 months at the hands of some amazing Professors, doctors and nurses. Against all the odds Isaac was the strong one and eventually came home. Isaac spent the next two years on oxygen”.

“In 2014 Zoë's Place offered Isaac and our family respite. When you have a special needs baby you can't just leave them with grandparents when you need a rest because their needs are so complex. So when Zoë's Place came into our lives it was a god send. The care my son received was above and beyond what I expected. Our family too were supported. We all enjoyed our involvement with Zoë's Place and I know I had no were else to turn for respite. We will be eternally grateful for that”.

And this is why Isaac and Isla along with Mum and Dad decided to take part in the 10 mile heroes; they wanted to give a little something back. Isaac loves biking along with his sister, Mum and Dad. So taking part was a no brainer.

Rachel said “Isaac is a bright boy with loads of energy and enthusiasm. His smile is infectious. Cheeky lol. Honestly, Zoë's Place will always have a special place in our hearts. That's why we are taking part in this fundraising event”.
