Auction total for Shires Guitar is off the scales!
Published date: 23 June 2017
Do you remember the STORY when Ben Earle and Crissie Rhodes of “The Shires” donated their guitar to Zoë’s Place Baby Hospice?
We are thrilled to announce that our eBay auction surpassed all of our expectations and the guitar raised over £3000 for the hospice. £3129.00 to be exact.
Mick McCann, the Fundraising Manager at Zoë’s Place said “I was speechless when I received notification of the final sale figure, and for anyone that knows me will admit that this is no mean feat!” Mick continued “The money raised will make such a big difference here at the hospice. This money will provide over 17 weeks of one to one specialist care for a child, which is just incredible.”
The successful bidder, Douglas Fairley, who lives in Edinburgh, Scotland, saw details of the eBay auction on the popular country band’s Facebook Page. Douglas and his wife are keen Shires fans and met the duo at a concert in Edinburgh in April. Douglas made a special visit all the way from his home to the hospice to collect the guitar and find out all about the care that is provided here.
Douglas said: “I am so pleased to have been able to help Zoe’s Place. I was really moved by what I saw on my visit, particularly by the kindness and dedication of the hospice staff. They make such a massive difference to the quality of the lives of the children and their parents. I'm delighted that the proceeds from the sale of Ben’s guitar will help them to continue with that great work. So, thanks again Ben and Crissie and see you in August in Glasgow!"
A very happy Douglas is pictured below receiving the guitar from fundraiser Vicky Whitlock.
We are very grateful to The Shires whose generous act has raised a huge amount of money and awareness for the hospice. We also appreciate all the shares of our social media posts and the support of our local press to help spread the word about the auction. It is only through the support of the general public that our hospice can exist and we cannot thank people enough.
