Published date: 14 June 2016
LAST CHANCE TO SIGN UP TO THE CHALLENGE OF A LIFETIME
This year, Zoë’s Place is celebrating its 21st year of providing hospice care to babies and infants aged 0-5 years and to mark the occassion we are delighted to announce the launch of our most challenging adventure to date, BIKE COSTA RICA!
On Saturday 5th November 2016 a group of people from all walks of life will be setting off to Costa Rica to do a Charity Cycle Ride in Aid of Zoë’s Place Baby Hospice in Liverpool. Our Hospice needs £1,600,000 per year just to keep the doors open and the care provided to our children is second to none. The cycle ride is a great way to raise funds for Zoë’s and it is also a real personal challenge.
Starting in San Jose, the challenge is a 250 mile ride across the country over some very difficult terrain. This is an 11 day trip, 5 of which are on the bikes with the remaining days being used for travel and 1 or 2 days which will give you an opportunity to experience this fantastic country. Costa Rica is officially known as the happiest place on earth and everywhere you go you will be welcomed with a smile by the locals, who will truly make you feel at home in their country. It is home to some amazing sights from active volcano’s to rainforests, tropical beaches to incredible wildlife, all of which you will experience during this very challenging adventure.
WHAT IS ZOË’S PLACE?
It is a Hospice specifically for babies and children from ages 0-5 who have life limiting or life threatening conditions. Very little support is given from the UK Government and fundraising is a vital part of the day to day running of the Hospice.
WHAT DO I HAVE TO DO?
You will have to buy a bike if you haven’t already got one! This challenge is not easy. You will cycle an average of 50 miles per day over a five day period on mountain bikes over some rugged terrain. You will have to train for months and be really focused, it’s not just a holiday. You will also have pledge to raise a minimum of £3,300.
HOW LONG AM I AWAY FOR?
The trip is 11 days long but the actual cycling is condensed to 5 days. The rest of the time is for travel and also sightseeing. There is also an option to extend your stay just for ‘holiday time’ if you wish.
WHAT’S IN IT FOR ME?
Because the trip is some time away it will give you a real opportunity to get yourself fit. You will also have some great fun in getting your sponsorship money together whether it’s putting on a Karaoke night or sitting in a bath of baked beans. Between now and November you will always have the trip in the back of your mind. It’s hard work raising the money and even harder work getting to the level of fitness required but you WILL find that you will come out of it as a better person. This really can be a life changing experience for you.
The event is run by Classic Tours who have years of expertise in this field and provide full support with tour guides, medics, cycle mechanics etc. They also know how to party at the end of it!
OK, I’M UP FOR IT.... WHAT DO I DO NOW?
You will need to complete the registration forms and pay a £400 non refundable registration fee although this can form part of your fundraising. We will then help to support you to raise a further £2,900 for our Hospice before the trip in November 2016.
THERE IS NO UPPER LIMIT ON WHAT YOU CAN RAISE... KEEP GOING!
